Wetlands of Kakadu

Another happy-dance …. Wetlands in Kakadu (33cms square, framed) has been selected by Aspire Gallery for their regular rotating exhibition – The Little Feature Wall. This Exhibition opens on 24 August, until 21 September. It is always so special to be exhibiting at Aspire Gallery with artists from across Australia. This painting is another memory I’m sharing from my experiences of our beautiful outback in the Northern Territory. The tranquility and massive expanse of this environment was really breathtaking. So different to the three paintings (previous Blog posts) in the other exhibitions this month and September. To portray the magical feeling of the water and the strength of the trees I decided to add several layers of coloured glazes.

Because I intended to use so many glossy glazes and a gloss oil varnish the main ‘finished’ photos had to be “setup’ and taken prior to glazing to avoid reflections, so the close up of the framed corner gives an idea of the final colour layers and gloss. I loved capturing the stillness yet the whispering ripples from the breeze in this scene.
