Colour Me Happy!

Why I feel like a kid in a Lolly Shop!!

All about February & March … a few beaut changes … and a peek at what I’ve been up to 🙂

Firstly, a studio revamp:

It sounded like a simple job to take down some paintings so ‘real painters’ could paint my walls a beautiful Alabaster White. Then everything had to be packed away for the painting team, and of course while I was at it there was the usual sorting, giving away, and discarding of materials, art books, notes, old artworks … and so it goes on ….

Personally, I think there was a lot more work and sorting for the studio and study than for the entire house! LOL! But the finished paintwork and woodwork is beautiful. The colours in my paintings are looking so happy against the white walls.

Then we decided to make a couple room swaps to give extra room for fam ily visiting. So now I have a beautiful outlook to our garden with room and brightness.

Secondly, I’ve not been up to much painting:

Unfortunately I didn’t have time to finish some works in time for some Exhibition Entry Deadlines. Our Reno packing, happening, then unpacking, then packing up and preparing for Tropical Cyclone Alfred, a couple of small ops, etc., etc.,these are my excuses.

In my Last Blog I shared a couple of artworks in progress. One I completed, Outback Song which I listed with Bluethumb Online Gallery and it sold two weeks later. I’m always grateful to Bluethumb and my new collectors. The second painting is nearly finished 🙂 Both are created from my photos taken in the Northern Territory outback.

Thirdly, a MEGA personal change:

For many years I’ve not been able to photograph without using auto-flocus because of my multi focal glasses. Also painting and colour mixing has been difficult on overcast days, in-spite of installing stronger lighting because of cataracts.

Years ago when I ran art classes I could look at a mixture and tell a student what colours and proportions they had used so they could recreate their colour. I was having to label my own mixes in the end.I couldn’t tell my dark blues and blacks apart, or Cerulean and turquoise, some browns and greys. So (another excuse) I’ve also been out of action whilst having two quick eye surgeries to remove the cataracts.
Well … COLOUR ME HAPPY!!
If you have been through it you will know how exciting it is to see everything so clearly, beautifully in focus, colourful and really-really white. And no more wearing glasses thanks to my new lenses.

Finally, a sneak peek:

In 1992, my first year at Uni, Parlous State (25minute life study) was a Finalist in the Queensland College of Art Griffith University and ArtistCare Exhibition. Now 2025, hubby thought a matching concept for it would look great in our hallway. I am quite excited about this ‘commission’ 🙂 . Currently I’m experimenting with a little etching from ’94 that I created from a life study in charcoal. Both pieces are to be 500mm x 755mm before framing.

It seems ironic to be working in charcoal and white pastel after lauding on about all the colours in my life 😉

Have a beaut week! Cheers, Judi in the Lolly Shop
