Finalist Du Rietz Art Awards

I am so thrilled to have been selected as a finalist in the Gympie Regional Gallery Du Rietz Art Awards 2024, 2D section. The exhibition opens this Friday, 23rd August. There are so many wonderful artists selected so I’m feeling pretty honoured to being amidst them, and I’m looking forward to seeing their entries. A list of the finalists is available on my Facebook and Instagram pages. This is the second time River Dance has been selected from National entries. Previously it was in the April Rustle Exhibition at Aspire Gallery a few months ago.

A little background to my creation of River Dance

Our first day traveling through Kakadu last year provided a variety of experiences. One thing that I was amazed at was the many different environments we enjoyed in just several hours touring. We started the day floating through the amazing vast wetlands, so beautiful and peaceful, which was such a dichotomy with quiet stealthy crocodiles lurking in the waters.

Diverse Landscapes
From wetlands to dry bush and rugged dusty rocks, then on to the tranquility of the East Alligator River.

The dappled sunlight and reflections were absolutely magical, my phone camera barely hints at the atmosphere. I’m always grateful for the photos as reference resources though, but also very grateful to be able to express my experiences of nature through my art. Following are a few of the steps of the work was in progress, the resource photo, and the final highlights to the painting.
