Ten Pelican Artists’ Books
The Feature Image for this Blog shows the Set of Ten Pelican Artist’s Books that I created in 1993 when I was studying for a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Fine Art at Queensland College of Art Griffith University. Two of the books were later purchased by two State Libraries.
In 2005 the Artist Book – Jurassic Peli (1993) was purchased by the State Library of Victoria, Rare Printed Collections. It contains hand-written historical information about the pelican with my own photography used as photo-montages to highlight the context of this historic species.
Also in 2005, the Artist Book, Perplexity (1993) was purchased by State Library of Queensland, for The James Hardie Collection. This book detailed environmental hazards of the Gold Coast Pelican in my script writing with photo-montages created from my photographs.
BINDING
Fishing line was used to stitch the books. Fishing line and hooks are the most dangerous life-threatening hazards to the Gold Coast pelicans and other sea birds.
COVERS
The silky blue fabric represents the ocean. Calico, randomly dyed with diluted Indian ink and frayed represents the foaming waves
