Creating – The Undaunted
This is my entry in The Queensland Regional Art Awards 2022 – REFRAME, @Flying Arts .
Title: The Undaunted – an acrylic painting on stretched canvas 61cm x 61 cm. I’ve shared several snippets of this artwork on FB and IG as a WIP over the months – so you may recognize some photos
My Artist’s Statement is in the link below and it explains why I chose to paint the Queensland Garden Expo, and my choice of style.
Those of you who have followed me will know that it is my husband who is the gardener – I just paint and photograph the flowers. I do love going to the Open Gardens and Expos with him when they are on. When we attended the Queensland Garden Expo at Nambour last year I instantly knew I wanted to paint the ambience of the show grounds.
The composition was created from a few of the photos I took on the day. Over the following months I tried several different compositions, and to break away from my usual style I did some sketches on my iPad, a very free and colourful medium. I originally had a lot of diagonals in my sketches, but decided on the horizontal layers in the composition to emphasize the tranquility rather than the obstacles.
