Well Hello There!

Well Hello There!

Acrylic, Ready to hang, 60.5cm (W) x 60.5cm (H) x 3.6cm (D) – Acrylic on stretched canvas.

I just love a Tawny Frogmouth – don’t you?
The photos are of our old avocado tree, at our last home up here in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The Tawny Frogmouths used to love sitting still in it, similar rugged colours. I crept up surreptitiously to photograph these two, but I love the way the older bird is staying still, ‘being camouflaged’, and keeping an eye on me, while the young one is perked up, like, ‘well hello there!’

Well hello There – the artwork in progress

When Nature Becomes Ethereal

When Nature Becomes Ethereal

Mixed Media (Requires Framing) 42cm (W) x 29.7cm (H) x 1cm (D) – Artist quality watercolour paint, pen and Chinese ink, resist, and paraffin, on Arches 300gsm Hot Press Cotton Paper.

That ethereal moment, when the mid-morning sunlight splashed through towering foliage. I was walking under the shadows of another leafy canopy, and the contrast of lights and shades framed a whole new world. Created from my own photos taken during a visit to the Harvey Bay Botanical Gardens while holidaying with family last Easter.

The Joy of Stolen Banksias

The Joy of Stolen Banksias

Acrylic, Ready to hang, 91cm (W) x 76cm (H) x 3.7cm (D) – Artist quality acrylic paint on stretched cotton canvas with satin oil varnish.

Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos often visit our country home in Maleny, Queensland. They were delighting in their breakfast the morning that I took this photo, and having the opportunity to photograph from our balcony always gives an intimacy to the perspective. They stole the Banksia pods from near our house and their cheeky behaviors and dexterity holding the food is captivating.

The Black Bean Tree

The Black Bean Tree

Mixed Media (Requires Framing), 38.5cm (W) x 49cm (H) x 0.1cm (D) – Mixed Media (watercolour, conte, graphite, paraffin) on Arches 300gsm Hot Press Cotton Paper.

A selection of pods and a leaf from one of our Black bean trees. Arranged on the floor of my studio to provide an overhead view of the Still Life. Created in monochromatic, sepia tones. I’ve been reluctant to part with this paining for a few years now, but happy to see it find it’s own home.
