New Artworks
Two new acrylic landscape paintings are now available at Bluethumb Gallery. These are from my en plein air sketching days around the Caloundra area.
For many, many years people have said that my paintings look like confetti – in 2006 I even named an autumn scene Nature’s Confetti 🙂 . In suggesting that my artworks look like confetti I hope it also means that they provide a feeling of happiness and serenity. In many of my paintings I have always used the Impressionist style of application to allow the viewer’s eye to blend the colours, and the Impressionists’ motif of the everyday, and the effects of light. The design in the scene is essential to me, as are the many colours.
Dappled Sunlight from a Winter Sun
My original sketches for this painting were done en plein air in mid June, at Jensen Park, near Caloundra, on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Sitting under the foliage and shadows of the large trees gave a delightful view of the splashing morning light that lead to the peaceful waters of the inlet.

The Call of the Bush
60.7cm (W) x 45.4cm (H) x 3.7cm (D)
The video-clip is a Sneak Peek of where I sat in the bush at Currimundi Lake (Sunshine Coast, Queensland,) to sketch my interpretation of the environment. I was working en plein air in the area with other artists. At first glance it looked quiet and peaceful, but as I sat there alone, sketching and observing, I could hear so many sounds from birds and insects. The old Banksia trees were captivating. I found the whole scene exciting, inviting, and alive.
